we first went to burot beach (then more popularly known as elizalde beach) in 2012, also on a black saturday. but this year, the beach was really crowded. it took us a while to find a spot for our car. tents lined the whole stretch of the main beach and people flocked everywhere.
we parked at the hilly part, and hiked down the other side of the beach near the mangroves. we pitched our tent under a low thorny tree for a bit of shade amid the hot weather. we were supposed to spend the night but that part of the beach became too dark at night since it was far from the lighted main area. we left around 7 p.m.
it was hard to appreciate burot’s beach beauty with the memory of our 2012 trip in mind amid this year’s crowd. but we still enjoyed sunbathing, eating, swimming, and watching the sunset that day. we hope to really stay overnight and watch a meteor shower next time. we probably should go during a weekday when there would hopefully be less campers.
