wedding diy: save-the-date postcard

i love diy projects! and i am excited to share with you our first one for our wedding!

earlier, we released a save-the-date announcement online but the photos from our fun-shoot with foreveryday photography are just so much fun that we decided to print them out  as well. and what better use for photo prints than to make them into save-the-date postcards!

what you’ll need:

  • awesome photos
  • photo editing software
  • photo paper
  • printer

how to do it:

  1. decide on your photos. you can use just one or several of your photos together.
  2. work on a layout, taking note of the printout size of your postcard. we used 4r photo paper (4×6) and worked on our layout using picmonkey [dot] com. we then used photoshop to change the color of the border, and to add the text.
  3. print.

for the back of the postcard, you will need:

  • a template
  • photo editing software
  • your front postcard printouts
  • printer

how to do it:

  1. you can either make your own template or search the internet for a free template that suits your theme. we got our template from weddingchicks [dot] com. if you want to use this same template, you should take note of the fold marks on the upper right corner or the stamp area. we had to fix it using photoshop before printing.
  2. add details about your wedding at the left column. for help in wording your cards, click here.
  3. address your cards on the column at the right side. for our postcards, we put the name of the guest in between the first and second line and then indicated the number of seats reserved for the guest on the line at the lower right corner.
  4. print, taking note of your printer settings in feeding your front postcard printouts.

we also made save-the-date stickers as stamps. guests can peel off the stamp from the postcard and stick it to their planner or calendar.

what you’ll need:

  • a photo or artwork
  • photo editing software
  • adhesive paper
  • scissors, cutter, or paper trimmer
  • double-sided adhesive tape

making your stamp:

  1. decide on the photo or artwork to use as main background for your stamp. the artwork used in our stamp is a screen capture from our save-the-date video clip.
  2. edit your chosen photo or artwork to get the overall look that you want for your stamp. we  tweaked the colors and added text to our stamp using photoshop.
  3. re-size your stamp to fit the slot at the back of your postcard.
  4. make a layout of the stamps that would fit your adhesive paper. we used an a4 size glossy adhesive photo paper.
  5. print and cut your stamps. in our case, we used a paper trimmer for cutting.
  6. place the stamp at the back of your postcard using double-sided adhesive tape.

that’s it! your postcards are ready! you can either  send them via post, or just deliver them by yourself like we did. enjoy! :)
